Neighbor to Neighbor distributed over 500 backpacks filled with school supplies for elementary, middle school, and high school students at its annual back-to-school backpack giveaway on Aug. 15. This annual event is a staple for Greenwich, Stamford, and Port Chester residents.

“Our annual backpack giveaway provides relief to parents struggling to purchase school supplies for their children,” said Mary Beth Minton, Neighbor to Neighbor’s interim executive director. “It’s an honor to offer this annual service to families with the help of dedicated local volunteers and donors.”

Neighbor to Neighbor’s board members and volunteers distributed the backpacks to families who attended the event held at the historic Tomes-Higgins House in Greenwich. Earlier this month, in preparation for the giveaway, volunteers from Christ Church packed and sorted the backpacks.

Donors for the event include: Greenwich United Way, Under Armour, Marmot (Greenwich), Verizon (Glenville); and Staples (Riverside).

Neighbor to Neighbor creates access to nutritious food, in-season clothing, and household items to area residents in need. Each week, the organization provides healthy food options at no cost for 1,000 Greenwich residents, half of whom are children. Learn more at ntngreenwich.org.
