The New Lebanon School Building Committee released its update for the month of April on Thursday.

Update on recent work:

  • Punch List and remaining items to be completed is ongoing
  • Library furniture was delivered, and old shelving was removed
  • The Salvage Sale of the remaining items to both the district and public has been completed.
  • Most items were repurposed throughout town.
  • The temporary gravel parking lot will be completed

Work anticipated in the future includes:

  • Punch List work will be scheduled after school hours or on Saturdays as well as April vacation
  • Fencing began April 1 around the old building in preparation for the demolition.
  • The Hazardous Abatement will began April 1.
  • Demolition will begin after abatement is complete

The update also noted that the project received its fourth reimbursement from the state of $3.5 million, totaling $15.7 million to date. A fifth reimbursement has been requested in the amount of $2.9 million, which is due in May.

Earlier this week, Ralph Mayo, interim Superintendent of Schools, announced the appointment of Alexandra Bartholomew as the Principal for New Lebanon School, effective July 1. Bartholomew is currently the principal of Anderson & McGrath Elementary School in Grand Blanc, Mich. She has ties to Greenwich, as her father and uncle attended Greenwich Public Schools.

The intra-district elementary International Baccalaureate magnet school serves students in grades PreK-5. The centrally located learning commons, equipped with flexible furnishings & adaptable technological infrastructure, allows for multiple zones of simultaneous learning. The building is designed to meet the sustainability goals established by the Educational Specifications and to achieve a gold-level LEED rating from US Green Building Council.
