Red Cross Prepares Medevac Bags for Wounded Military

Board members from the American Red Cross in Metro New York North are giving support to wounded members of the military. The board has gathered critical supplies and built care package to support Walter Reed’s Medical Evacuation (“MEDEVAC”) Program. The group will gather at the Greenwich office on Indian Field Road at 11 a.m. on April 1 and will organize the supplies and load the Red Cross trucks for delivery to Walter Reed.

Whenever a MEDEVAC flight lands, the Red Cross is there and ready to help by providing a MEDEVAC Care Package, complete with toiletries, snacks, magazines, bottled water and other needed items. Mary Young, CEO of the Metro New York North Red Cross said: “We are so pleased to be able to provide comfort to our brave men and women of the armed forces. Often patients arrive without even the most basic personal effects so these care packages are key in providing support.”

The American Red Cross has supported the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families for more than 150 years. As the organizer of the military’s only corps of hospital volunteers, the Red Cross is a constant presence in the lives of service members as they recover from injuries or, in many cases, learn to live with them.

The Red Cross currently has more than 500 Red Cross volunteers involved in a wide range of activities for patients and their families at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
