Special Education Legal Fund to Hold Education Panel

Special Education Legal Fund, headquartered in Greenwich, and co-founded by Greenwich residents Christine Lai and Ulrika Drinkall, announces the second in a series of parent seminars intended to help parents advocate for their children in special education. These information sessions are intended for parents with children in special education or children with particular learning needs and challenges.

“From Evaluation to Environment: What to Expect in Special Education” will take place on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at Second Congregational Church, 139 East Putnam Ave. This panel will be moderated by Christine Lai, co-founder and Executive Director of Special Education Legal Fund, and will feature the following experts:

Lara Damashek, Early Insight Advocacy Piper Paul Esq, Piper Paul Law
Beth Sugerman, Winston Preparatory School Dr. Marjorie Castro, Eagle Hill School Aksana Varapai, Foundation School

The panel will address topics such as:
• What are the differences between school testing and a neuropsych evaluation?
• How can parents use an evaluation to determine whether school programs or other interventions are effective?
• What is an IEE (Independent Educational Evaluation)?
• My school district says my child doesn’t qualify for supports and services because he is performing at grade level, but he has behavioral and social problems. What should I do?
• What are the differences between a 504 and an IEP?
