Grace Kaplan Galton, 88, beloved wife, mother and grandmother and 45-year resident of Newton, Mass., died Dec. 26, 2018 in Stamford, CT. Born Dec. 3, 1930 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Eva and Eliot Kaplan.

A graduate of Cornell University, Grace also earned a Master’s degree in education from Temple University. At Cornell she served as President of the Sigma Delta Tau sorority. She taught 5th and 6th grade math in the Newton Public Schools for 32 years, serving as department head and math coordinator. She was also an author of math textbooks, journal articles and learning materials. Grace was an avid follower of the stock market and taught her students the basics of investing. A mischievous, gentle sense of humor endeared her to her students who returned to visit long after graduating.

Grace enjoyed spending summers at the lake house on Lake Ossipee in Freedom, N.H. and travelling with the Judy Group. She had a lifelong love of animals, riding horses in her youth and doting on the family dogs. Grace will be remembered for her generous nature, selflessness and delight in nurturing the success of others.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years Eugene Galton. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Hindman (Steve) of Old Greenwich, CT and Kim Galton of Stamford, CT. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Evan, Halley and Dana Hindman and Allison and Drew Felsenthal and by her brother Gerald Kaplan.

Burial will be private. The family will receive friends and family at the home of Barbara and Steve Hindman, 59 Hillcrest Park Road, Old Greenwich, CT Sunday, Dec. 30 from 3 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Grace K. Galton to The Washington University Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (knightadrc.wustl.edu) or the charity of one’s choice.
