Obituary: Joseph Cornelius

Joseph John Cornelius passed away at home with family by his side on Sept. 10, 2018. Born Jan. 15, 1968 he was a lifelong resident of Greenwich.

Joe attended Greenwich schools and worked for the Town of Greenwich as a Maintenance Mechanic. He enlisted in the Army in 1991 and was honorably discharged in 1994. Joe served most of his military career in Germany as a mechanic where he made lifetime friendships that go on to this day.

He is survived by his loving wife Ali and two daughters Eliza Jane and Isabelle Mary. Joe’s world revolved around his girls and theirs around him. He was their best friend and champion in everything they did. Joe also leaves behind his father John, sister Betsy (Phil), brother John Daniel and niece Michaela. He was predeceased by his mother Mary.

Joe was a man of few words but many actions. He was fiercely loyal and had a great sense of humor. Over his life Joe cultivated friendships that reflect these traits for which his family is extremely grateful.

Friends and family gathered on Sept. 16. A Mass of Christian Burial took place Sept. 17 at St. Michael’s Church in Greenwich. Burial followed in Middle Patent Cemetery in Banksville.
