On Saturday, June 30, a crowd of more than 400 gathered in front of Town Hall to demand a permanent end to family separation at the border and an immediate reunification of those who have been separated. At the same time, those gathered called for an end to family detentions and the Zero Tolerance policy. The Executive Order did not accomplish reunification, and it did not end family detention or the Zero Tolerance policy.
The Greenwich event was promoted by Indivisible Greenwich and was one of more than 700 held nationwide, with the anchor event held in Washington, D.C.
“Children and toddlers were ripped from their parents, transported in the dead of night to black sites where they were hidden from the public, the press, representative of Congress and local officials. Caregivers were prevented from comforting the children. What our government did is unconscionable and a stain upon our great nation. These children still have not been reunited nor is there any meaningful plan to get them reunited,” said Indivisible Greenwich founder Joanna Swomley.
“The Trump Executive Order results in families being imprisoned indefinitely together. Parents should not be criminally prosecuted for doing what all parents to – bring their children to safety. There are other, more humane ways, of addressing this issue. We are better than this,” said
