Denise Ann Turek, 66, died on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Waterbury Hospital after a long illness. Born in Greenwich on Sept. 29,1951, she was the daughter of Jean (Lally) Turek and the late Frank Joseph Turek. Denise lived with her family through November 1956 when she came to live at the Southbury Training School at the age of five.
Over the years, Denise enjoyed participation in day programs which provided her with leisure, recreation and habilitative programming which focused on daily living skills, socialization, group activities, and participation in the daily routine. Denise enjoyed music, sing-a-longs and the Gatehouse concerts. She enjoyed trips to parks, the movies, restaurants, and being outdoors. She had a fondness for chocolate. Denise’s guardian and family would like to thank the staff at Southbury Training School for the excellent care they gave to her over the years.
Besides her mother, survivors include her guardian, Emily, her brothers Richard Turek (Elaine) of Wallingford, Jeff Turek of Hamburg, Germany, Mark Turek of Rhode Island and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her family, friends, and staff who have worked with her over the years.
A private graveside service and burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greenrwich took place June 16. Memorial contributions in Denise’s name may be made to the STS Foundation, P.O. Box 872, Southbury, CT 06488-0901.
