The Annual American Flag Raising will take place on the Fourth of July at 9 a.m., at Greenwich Town Hall, 101 Field Point Rd. The event will take place rain or shine.

During the event, the first American flag will be raised to celebrate Independence Day and the Greenwich Scouts will parade the flags of the 13 original colonies.

In addition to the flag raising, the event will honor descendants of the early settlers of Greenwich and salute patriots who served the cause of the American Revolution. There will also be a tribute to veterans and a Greenwich girl’s memoir of World War I. The “Good Citizen Award” winners from Greenwich schools will also be recognized.

The event is a great way for participants to discover the hidden history of Greenwich during the colonial period.

Refreshments will be served inside of Town Hall following the ceremony.

This year, the event’s master of ceremonies will be Ed Dadakis and to say that he’s thrilled to host the event is an understatement. “That’s such a great and patriotic event for everybody in the town,” Dadakis said. “You go to an event like that and you see the community out there, whether they are watching the event or participating in all sorts of ways, and that’s great. To gather and honor our nation, whether you’re a republican, a democrat or unaffiliated, is just a great thing.”
