Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jill Gildea announced the appointment of Ms. Shamain Johnson as the Assistant Director of Certified Staff in the Human Resources Department of the Greenwich Public Schools (GPS), effective, July 1. With the GPS since 2014 as Assistant Principal at Central Middle School, Ms. Johnson shares, “I am extremely honored to be appointed to the position of Assistant Director of Human Resources. I look forward to this new endeavor and opportunity to serve Greenwich Public Schools in a greater capacity. Central Middle School will always have a special place in my heart. It has been a pleasure to work with amazing students and a talented group of professionals committed to helping children reach new heights.”
In addition to her general responsibilities as an assistant principal, Johnson has made a notable impact in coordinating professional development in support of Response to Intervention practices; facilitating shifts in the instructional model for delivering special education services, and in her use of evidenced-based decision making to support school improvement planning.
CMS Principal Tom Healy noted, “Shamain’s professionalism and ability to connect with all members of a school community are directly responsible for the gains we have made in transforming the teaching and learning at CMS. While I will miss her presence and expertise on my school based leadership team, the Greenwich Public Schools will benefit having her as the new Assistant Director of Certified Staff for the Human Resources department.”
The Assistant Director will assist in planning and conducting certified staff and substitute teacher recruitment activities, coordinating interview processes, credential review and reference checking, organizing orientation and onboarding practices, projecting staffing needs, and supporting evaluations as assigned.
Director of Human Resources Mr. Bob Stacy said, “Shamain will be an excellent addition to the Human Resources Team. She brings a strong focus on attracting, training, supporting and retaining the highest quality educators for Greenwich. Her experience, her confidence and her vision will ensure the Human Resources Department continues to provide high quality support to our varied customers, with an eye to continuous improvement in our recruitment, hiring and onboarding practices.”
Administrative candidates are selected after a comprehensive search and appointment process, which includes widespread recruitment efforts, multiple interviews, and extensive reference and background checks.
The search for an Assistant Principal for Central Middle School will begin immediately.
