George Thomas Lowden, Jr. passed from this world peacefully surrounded by family on Jan. 28,2018.

He was 90 years old.

He was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Port Chester, N.Y. to the late George Lowden, Sr. and Alice Avery Lowden. George began working at age 15 after the passing of his father. Although he left school early, he was a lifelong learner, teaching himself anything that interested him which he hadn’t learned in school – one of the reasons he was so good at “Jeopardy!” which he watched each night.

He also loved reading the comics, and always completed the daily crossword and jumble. George served as a mechanic in the U.S. Army, taking the U.S.S. Wakefield to Italy to aid in the Allied occupation after World War II.

He worked for many years at Arnold’s Bakery in Greenwich, retiring at age 62. George loved bowling and bowled into his seventies.

He also loved to watch the New York Mets (although they often caused him much heartache). He enjoyed going to games at Shea Stadium and always watched them on TV.

George also loved planning and taking trips with his grandchildren each summer to Florida (even traveling twice to Hawaii). He was always behind the camera capturing all the memories and the scenery.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Georgianne Woodson, daughters Mary Dudas and Linda Houston, and his wife of 65 years, Edythe Lowden.

George is survived by his daughters Barbara Lowden and Sharon LaPolice, his seven grandchildren Deja Hickcox (Andrew), Melissa Dudas, Jason Lowden (Katy), Megan Dudas, Walter Dudas, Rosa Lee Houston, Odell Houston Sr., great granddaughters Hayden Hickcox, Isabella Lowden, and one more on the way, plus his great grandson, Odell Houston, Jr.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Kane-Brock of Greenwich Hospital for her compassion, kindness, and gentle care with both George and his family during George’s final days. Private services will be held.
