LaFontaine, Nowinski to Speak on Head Trauma in Kids’ Sports

On Tuesday, Feb. 13, The Nantucket Project Library will be hosting NHL Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine and Chris Nowinski, PhD and CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation for a talk titled “This is Your Brains on Sports.”

300,000 high school athletes suffer from concussions every year but the very same athletes profess that the game and the team are more important than their individual health and that they may play through a concussion to avoid letting down their teammates, coaches and parents.

With the acceleration of documented concussions are we truly grasping the serious long-term consequences of head traumas and other injuries? Will youth football be history in five years?

The community is invited to join the discussion on youth sports and the prevalence of brain trauma among student athletes. The event takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at TNP Library, 123 Mason St.
