A New Meadow at Greenwich Land Trust

The meadow at the Louise Mueller Preserve, home of the Greenwich Land Trust, is doubling in size. Earlier this winter, staff and volunteers removed a large section of the lawn near the front entrance and seeded it with native grasses and wildflowers. Native meadow seeds often need to endure a seasonal shift in temperatures to germinate. Seeding at the end of the season allows the seeds to break dormancy after the cold winter months and establish new plants in the spring.

The area will also be planted in the spring with wildflowers propagated in the Land Trust greenhouse. Once established, the meadow will be the starting point for the Virginia Gwynn Trail, which will meander through beautiful habitat features across the preserve.
