Mary McCarthy Marks, 80, of Greenwich, CT, passed away suddenly on Dec. 18.
Mary was born on June 7, 1937, to Daniel and Agnes (Blandford) McCarthy. She grew up in Scarsdale, NY and graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1955. She attended college, then lived in New York City, working at Avon and other jobs. She married A. Thomas Trischett in 1958 and had four children. She later married Robert W. Marks of Greenwich in 1986. Mary lived in Greenwich from 1965 until her death on Dec. 18, 2017.
Mary worked all her adult life while raising four children. She possessed a dynamic and competent work ethic that she carried with her all her life. Mary worked at Christ Church as the parish secretary and retired after 34 years. She could not stay “retired” for very long. She was a volunteer at Nathaniel Witherell in Greenwich, which soon turned into a nearly full time job for the last several years. She was much loved by all who worked and resided there.
Mary was very proud of her children, who all inherited her work ethic and her sense of humor. Her grandson was married in Oregon in October and Mary traveled there for the wedding. It was the first time in 21 years that Mary had her whole family together. It was a joyous occasion. She cried tears of joy and laughter at the entertaining ceremony and reception. Her family is thankful to have shared that event with her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Agnes McCarthy, and her husband Robert W. Marks. She is survived by her sister Tara McCarthy (Leslie), daughters Lisa Trischett, Kristin Daly, and Dorothy (Dave) Sullivan, and her son Michael (Kirsten) Trischett, grandsons Ian Daly and Hunter (Jana) Daly, nephew Dan (Deb) Wise, stepdaughter Robin Marmion, and step-grandson VP Marmion and step-grandson Joel Sullivan, and many cousins and dear friends.
A memorial service, burial in the memorial garden, and reception will be held at Christ Church, 254 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich on Sat., Jan. 13 beginning at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Nathaniel Witherell, 70 Parsonage Rd., Greenwich, CT 06830 or the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., 2121 K St. NW, Ste. 200, Washington, DC 20037. Condolences can be made at Mary’s online guestbook: www.castiglionefh.com
