Greenwich City Scholastic Chess Championship Coming to Greenwich Academy

Registration is now open for the 2018 Greenwich City Scholastic Chess Championship being held Sunday, Jan. 21 at Greenwich Academy, 200 North Maple Ave.

The tournament is open to all students from kindergarten through high school with sections arranged based on grade. The event is organized by the National Scholastic Chess Foundation and is part of its 2017-18 tournament chess season which comprises 16 events throughout Fairfield County and Westchester County, N.Y.

The tournament is open to all students regardless of where they live. Prizes are awarded to the top individual and team performers.

In addition, the top player in each of seven grade categories who resides in or attends school in Greenwich will receive a plaque as Greenwich City Scholastic Chess Champion. Top school teams (sum of team scores across related sections) will also receive awards.

Competitors must be members of the United States Chess Federation. The NSCF has made arrangements for a discounted membership fees for non- members to play in the tournament.
