Greenwich Town Hall will reopen for business as usual at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.
First Selectman Peter J. Tesei, in consultation with Emergency Management and Emergency Services department heads on Thursday night, authorized the reopening of Town Hall for regular business hours.
The Town continues to deal with the blowing and drifting snow in the aftermath of the first storm of the New Year.
“I thank everyone who has abided by the Snow Emergency and Parking Ban that the Board of Selectmen enacted Wednesday evening. Our top priority is to clear all 265 miles of Town roads,” Tesei said.
He urges all residents to continue to obey the no parking ban so that Town crews can continue their work to make all of the streets safe and usable for business and schools on Friday, Jan. 5.
To that end, the Snow Emergency that the Board of Selectmen, acting as the Town’s Traffic Authority, had imposed on Wednesday (Jan. 3) remains in effect until further notice.
The parking ban will enable the Department of Public Works crews and its contractors to effectively clear Town roadways.
Residents should park their vehicles in their driveways or in their yards. Residents also may use municipal parking lots to park their vehicles, according to the Department of Public Works.
The Town ordinance requires Greenwich property owners be responsible for keeping all sidewalks along their property clear of snow and ice.
The Town of Greenwich prohibits plow contractors from pushing snow from driveways or parking lots onto Town streets. This practice is dangerous and impedes the Town’s snow removal efforts. If there is no other alternative to pushing snow into the street, the private plow driver must plow off the windrow left across the street by re-plowing until the road is safe.
