(UPDATED: Thursday, Jan. 4 at 2:39 p.m.) The snow is still coming down with force throughout Greenwich, as today’s winter storm has caused closures of businesses, schools and government offices throughout the area.
Currently the Town of Greenwich is under a winter storm warning, which will remain in effect until Friday at 1 a.m.
While the snow is still a problem, occasional blizzard conditions and wind chills are expected to be dangerous. The wind is expected to be anywhere from 24 to 38 miles per hour, with gusts near 50. In addition, the wind chill values are between five and 10 degrees.
Tonight the temperatures will plummet to eight degrees, with wind chill values will be between zero and -10 degrees. In addition, winds will be blowing 24 to 31 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 41 miles per hour.
A winter storm warning means severe winter weather conditions are occurring. The National Weather Service says that if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
According to a post from SWCTweather.com’s Jacob Maisel, Fairfield, New Haven and Westchester counties will all experience snowfall greater than six inches from this storm.
It goes without saying that in these conditions, it’s best to stay home and off the roads. That will allow the Town of Greenwich to plow the roads and will keep accidents to a minimum in extremely slippery conditions.
