Letter: In Support of Sherr

lettertotheeditor

To the Editor,

I am writing in support my friend, Peter Sherr, who is running for re-election to the Board of Education (BOE). Peter, who is finishing his second term on the board and his first as its chairman, has never shied away from advocating for what he has believed are policies that are in the best interests of our students. In my years of serving in local and state government, I know how hard it can be to take a stand that may not be popular at the time, despite the fact that time may prove the rightness of that position.

Since Peter began his chairmanship, he has repeatedly and consistently reached out the state delegation on educational matters. While that is not required, nor had it been done before during my time in Hartford, I would like to publicly thank him for doing so. And yes, we have not always agreed on certain issues, but Peter’s willingness to listen to a different viewpoint has always been appreciated.

Advocating for what is best for our students while doing so in a fiscally responsible way is not as easy as it sounds, especially on an education board. I feel that Peter gets that right and has the experience, enthusiasm, and energy to continue working on behalf of all Greenwich residents on the Board of Education.

Please join me in voting for Peter Sherr on Nov. 7.

Fred Camillo
Greenwich State Representative (R-151)
