To the Editor,

Greenwich Republicans are fortunate to have seven highly skilled professionals seeking to serve on the Board of Estimate and Taxation. The BET is the leading volunteer governing Board of the Town as it sets fiscal policy and the tax rate. On Tuesday, September 12th all registered Republicans will get the chance to select six of the seven candidates to serve us for two more years.

I was pleased to place Debra Hess’s name into nomination at the July Republican Town Committee nominating meeting and was gratified the RTC endorsed her. Debra is a consummate finance professional. She is accustomed to controlling costs, meeting investment objectives and managing complex financial transactions. Debra is a doer, who works collaboratively to achieve a shared outcome. I am confident with her education and financial management experience she will provide Greenwich taxpayers effective representation on the BET.

For 12 years, Leslie Tarkington has been at the forefront of Greenwich’s strong financial management team. She has served on the BET’s Human Resources Committee as Chairman, the Law Committee, Liaison to the Assessor’s office and presently on the Budget Committee. Leslie is a seasoned finance professional and has worked for Ford and Citigroup in the United States and abroad. She has supported the Town’s 15 year capital improvement plan and a debt limit policy that retains Greenwich’s enviable financial position among municipalities across the nation. She is a protector of our neighborhoods.

Debra Hess and Leslie Tarkington will be excellent fiscal stewards for the citizens of Greenwich.

Peter J. Tesei

The writer is the First Selectman of Greenwich
