The Greenwich Historical Society will announce the winners of the “This Place Matters!” photography contest at a reception beginning at 10 a.m. on Founders Day, Tuesday, July 18, at Innis Arden Cottage, Greenwich Point Park. After the reception, weather permitting, there will be a Greenwich Founders’ Day Walk out to the Bluff where a bronze replica of the original July 18, 1640 deed is mounted on a boulder overlooking Long Island Sound. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.
“This Place Matters!” was announced in May at the Greenwich Historical Society’s Landmarks Recognition Program. The initiative encourages residents to focus on the importance of preservation for maintaining Greenwich’s rich cultural heritage by sharing the places and stories that make Greenwich a cherished place worth preserving.
Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei will announce the winning photos which are being selected by a jury consisting of Michael Biondo, architectural photographer; Rachel Franco, preservation advocate; Joseph Kantorski, professional graphic designer and Robin Kencel, co-chair of the Town of Greenwich public relations initiative. Carrie Wallack is Program Chairman.
A collection of prizes consists of several highly anticipated annual events sponsored by the Greenwich Historical Society: Tickets for two to the Antiquarius Opening Night Party for the Greenwich Winter Antiques Show: Fine Art, Jewelry and Antiques; Tickets for two to the Antiquarius Holiday House Tour; One family membership to the Greenwich Historical Society; One family pass to the Greenwich Historical Society Fall Festival, and a collection of Greenwich-themed books for children and adults.
“This Place Matters!” is inspired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s initiative to encourage preservation.
