Stephen Christopher Murray, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 61 years old.

Stephen was born July 28, 1955 in New York, N.Y., a son of the late Samuel John and Evelyn Hardart Murray, and had lived in Cheshire for the past 10 years. He was a graduate of Greenwich Country Day School and Greenwich High School and attended the University of New Mexico.

For more than 30 years and prior to his 2016 retirement, Stephen was the founder, owner and operator of Mountain Valley Spring Water of Connecticut. Stephen was an avid sailor and enjoyed hiking and riding his Harley.

His favorite time of year was celebrating the summer solstice attending the Connecticut Audubon bonfire. He spent much of his free time at nature centers and state parks, and he savored the view atop Bear Mountain on the Appalachian Trial. He also enjoyed historic sites and bird watching with Theresa. His love and free spirit will be missed greatly by family and friends.

Besides his life partner of 10 years, Theresa DeLeo, he leaves two brothers, Samuel J. Murray of New Canaan and Frank H. Murray of Greenwich; three sisters, Margo Murray of Santa Fe, N.M., Marsha Murray of Winter Park, Fla. and Evelyn McGowan of Vero Beach, Fla.; five nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Rosie.
