
Joseph “Chick” Kural, 97 years old, passed away peacefully at his home on June 11.
Joseph was born on Nov. 10, 1919 in Derby, to the late Louis Joseph and Antoinette (Marganski) Kural.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Koziel Kural, sisters Stella Miazga and Helen Labate, and brother John Kural.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Kassay (John), his son, Louis Kural (Allison), five grandchildren, John, Joseph, and Kristiann Kassay, Rebecca and Michael Kural, and several nieces and nephews.
Joseph moved to Greenwich in the 1920’s. He was a 1939 graduate of Greenwich High School, where he played football and baseball. He loved baseball and played for the Majestics after high school.
Upon graduation, Joseph went to work for Electrolux before being drafted into the Army in February 1942. He spent three years in the service during World War II, with a short hiatus to marry Mary Koziel on April 7, 1945. They remained married until her death in 1978.
Joseph was a union carpenter for 15 years and a union plumber for 25 years. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed watching the New York Mets and Notre Dame Football. As an avid fan of the UConn Women’s Basketball Team, he went to the 2002 Final Four in San Antonio.
Visitation was held yesterday at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 16 at 9 a.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 399 North St.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, 4 Horseneck Lane, Greenwich, CT 06830, in Joseph Kural’s name.
