The Bruce Museum showcases art by talented high school students in the new exhibition “iCreate” 2017, on view from June17 through July 30. Marking its eighth consecutive year, this annual exhibition presents over 40 fine art works carefully selected this year from more than 700 submissions from teens throughout New York and Connecticut.
The goal of iCreate is not only to spotlight the diverse artwork, but also to provide young artists a venue to build confidence and gain recognition in the community.
The exhibition is organized by eight high school seniors from the Bruce Museum’s Youth@Bruce committee: Rachel Gee from Scarsdale High School, Devon Hammer and Catherine Li from Ridgefield High School, Ellie Hooker from Byram Hills High School, and Megan Hobbs, Courtney Lowe, Kristen Picard, and Bridget Wolters from Darien High School.
“The process was challenging and required a lot of perseverance and collaboration,” said Gee. “Seeing the final gallery makes it well worth the hard work. It’s also amazing to see the faces behind the talent.”
“Art isn’t celebrated enough,” Picard added. “I loved being a part of this collaboration, which recognizes talented and hardworking student artists within our community.”
Awards, including eight cash prizes for the student artists, will be presented by Youth@Bruce at an opening night reception.
