Great Captain Island Ferry Out of Service for Opening Weekend

greenwich-island-beach-ferry

The Department of Parks and Recreation announced that the Great Captain Island Ferry will not be available for service until further notice.

The Islander II (built in 1948), was on her return from the shipyard when an engine problem occurred resulting in the vessel being returned to the shipyard. Due to the age of the engine and the availability of parts, there is not adequate time to acquire the necessary parts, complete the repairs, conduct sea trials, and to put the vessel back into service.

The Department is closely monitoring the progress of the repairs and will provide updates as they receive them. Their expectation is to have the vessel back in service by next weekend.

Ferry Service to Island Beach will not be impacted and will commence June 10, as scheduled. Please visit the Town’s website for more information, greenwichct.org
