On April 26, members of the Greenwich High School (GHS) Roots & Shoots Club, Renè Jameson, Sophie Lindh and Sara Stober, participated in and won the first annual school grant competition sponsored by Pitch Your Peers (PYP), a Greenwich-based women’s organization focused on philanthropy towards local charities. Held at Americares in Stamford, GHS students presented to PYP members and mentors, including former GHS graduate Kirby Grabowski and Roots & Shoots faculty advisor Kathy Mendez.
The $3,000 grant money earned at this invite-only competition will be used to fund the upcoming GHS Roots & Shoots Community Garden of Hope – a collective community service project founded and led by René Jameson, President of the Greenwich High School Roots & Shoots Club with Neighbor to Neighbor focused on combating food insecurity in Greenwich. Second place winner, The Stanwich School, earned $2,000 towards their program to support Friends of Autistic People (FAP) and Sacred Heart’s team will use its $1,000 third place prize to create an oral history project for Greenwich Woods Rehabilitation and Health Care facility.
