Neighbor to Neighbor Client Gets Pampered for Mother’s Day

Fenix Salon loves to give back. For Mother’s Day, owner Alexandra Toro honored a Neighbor to Neighbor client by treating her to an afternoon of pampering. Maria Espinoza enjoyed several relaxing hours at the salon and left with a haircut and new “ombre” hairstyle. Looking to honor a special local mom, Toro contacted Sue Golden, a longtime volunteer at Neighbor to Neighbor, Greenwich’s food pantry and clothing room, to locate a local mother particularly in need of pampering on Mother’s Day.

Maria’s day of treatment was a gift to her from her daughter-in-law Karen. Karen and her husband work multiple jobs to make ends meet while raising their three children, the youngest less than a year old. Karen’s mother-in-law helps care for the children while Karen is at work. When this opportunity was offered to her, Karen immediately asked that it be given to her mother-in-law instead. “She helps us so much. She deserves to have a special day,” says Karen.

This is not the first time Fenix has reached out to help Neighbor to Neighbor. The salon, located upstairs at 48 Greenwich Ave., sponsored a fashion show to support the Prom Project, a collaboration between Neighbor to Neighbor and Greenwich High School’s Former Attire Club. “Giving back and making people happy is why we do what we do here at Fenix Salon,” says Toro. “A little act of kindness can impact someone’s life in ways we can’t understand. Be good, be kind, be happy.”
