The Greenwich Chapter of Room to Read, a global non-profit focused on literacy and girls’ education, is hosting an evening with New York Times best-selling author Christina Baker Kline of Orphan Train, with a guest appearance by Roshanara, a graduate of Room to Read’s Girls Education Program in India. The event will be held at Greenwich Country Day School on May 9, at 6:30 p.m.; proceeds to benefit Room to Read.
Roshanara is a 19-year-old alumna of Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program, who was nearly forced by her family to drop out of school before finishing 10th grade, and enter into an arranged marriage. Through the life skills training and support from her Room to Read “social mobilizer” (mentor) in her hometown of Delhi, Roshanara successfully negotiated with her family and advocated for her future education. Today, she is pursuing her studies at university and is working part-time at a doctor’s clinic to support her siblings’ education.
Greenwich Country Day School is located at 401 Old Church Rd. Tickets are $25 and are available at give.classy.org/RTRGreenwich2017
