The Lions Club of Greenwich will present their annual Dr. John A. Clarke Award on Thursday, April 27 at 12 p.m., in special ceremony.
The Clarke award is one of the Lions Club’s premier events of the year. It honors Dr. Clarke, who was a founder and the first president in Greenwich when it was chartered in1923. Clarke served as a medical adviser to the GPD during his distinguished career, and when he passed away in 1944, the Lions Club began the award as a tribute to him and to honor an outstanding member of the Greenwich Police Department who is selected by the Chief of Police. The name of the honoree, chosen for exceptional performance in the line of duty, is embargoed until the day of the luncheon.
Several of Clarke’s descendants, local officials, past GPD chiefs, and many retired and active fellow officers attend the luncheon each year.
The event will take place at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich, 1800 E. Putnam Ave.
