For Greenwich native and Columbus Blue Jackets’ forward Cam Atkinson, a lifelong dream will be realized on Sunday. Earlier today, Atkinson got that call that will be playing in the upcoming National Hockey League All-Star Game.

“It’s an honor and I’m very excited about the opportunity,” said Atkinson to the Sentinel. “I’m going to enjoy every moment and I’m probably going to be pinching myself the next couple of days.”

Atkinson will take the place of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin, who will skip the All-Star game due to injury.

So far this season, Atkinson has been on fire, netting 24 goals and 22 assists. His goal total leads the Columbus Blue Jackets and Atkinson is second on the team in assists.

The All-Star Game will take place 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
