The First Congregational will celebrate the 50th anniversary performance of The Messiah on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. To mark this special occasion, over the course of two concerts, the Festival Chorus and Orchestra will perform the complete oratorio. Parts II and III will be performed in First Church’s May Spring Festival of the Arts concert.

Since 1966, First Congregational Church has presented Part I of Handel’s Messiah, the Christmas portion, concluding with the Hallelujah chorus. The First Church Festival Chorus will be accompanied by a twenty-piece chamber orchestra, and professional soloists for the performances.

Anyone who has choral experience, regardless of religious affiliation, is encouraged to join the Festival Chorus for the 50th annual concert. There will be only one choir rehearsal on Monday, Dec. 5, and one dress rehearsal with the orchestra on Wednesday, Dec. 7, both from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. There is a refundable score deposit of $20. “There are no auditions; everyone is welcome,” said Dr. Craig Symons, Music Director at First Church. “The singers always have a great time. Just ask one!”

The performances will take place in the Meetinghouse at First Congregational Church of Greenwich, 108 Sound Beach Ave.
