Guerrilla Girls Take On Greenwich

The popular feminist art activists known as the Guerrilla Girls will bring their message to the Bruce Museum Wednesday, Dec. 7. Protecting their individual identities by wearing gorilla masks, the anonymous Guerrilla Girls use facts, humor and outrageous visuals to expose sexism, racism, and corruption in politics, art, film and pop culture.

Members of the group have visited over 90 universities and museums from Shanghai to London and New York since their start in 1985. This will be their first visit to Greenwich and will spotlight the new Bruce Museum exhibition “Her Crowd: New Art by Women from our Neighbors’ Private Collections.”

“We are looking forward to wild, witty and important discussions on the state of the arts,” says Sandra van Boetzelaer, Director of Marketing & Communications at the Bruce Museum. “The Guerrilla Girls’ visit will no doubt open minds about gender and racial inequality in the art world. And we expect tickets to sell out quickly, so be sure to sign up soon.”

To attend the Dec. 7 event, there are two options. The “Go Full Guerrilla” program starts at 6 p.m. with time to mingle with the Guerrilla Girls and enjoy a light dinner and drinks in a jungle-suggested atmosphere until the start of the panel discussion. After the panel, guests will return to an after-glow party and drinks until 10 pm. There is also an option to join the festivities starting at 7:30 p.m. for the “Guerrilla Tough Talk Only” with the discussion on the state of the art world followed by the after-glow.

The panel includes members of the current art world known for their open, frank talk. The moderator, Katie Hollander, Executive Director of Creative Time, will start the discussion with artist Hilary Harkness, collector Sandra Joys, art dealer Cristin Tierney, curator Mia Laufer, and two Guerrilla Girls.

Tickets, available now at brucemuseum.eventbrite.com, are $95 for the full program ($80 for museum members), and $50 for the talk and after party.

The Bruce Museum is located at 1 Museum Drive. For more information, visit brucemuseum.org
