‘Fan Food Drive’ to benefit Neighbor to Neighbor

The Greenwich Jr United Way (GJrUW) has teamed up with the Greenwich Youth Football League (GYFL) to support Neighbor to Neighbor during the fall 2016 football season. A special webpage was created by GJrUW on the Amp Your Good (AMP) website, ampyourgood.com/user/campaigns/2853 to accept donation from now until Nov. 23.

GYFL families, fans and town residents are encouraged to support their neighborhood team by donating food virtually using the AMP website through their team’s page. The football team with the most pounds of food donated in their name will be recognized at their GYFL end of the season award ceremony.

“The GYFL is proud to be a part of such a wonderful collaboration that will benefit so many in our community,” said GYFL President, Frank Sarcone. He continued, “By partnering with the Jr United Way we will raise awareness by utilizing the greatest resource any community has – our children.”

Greenwich United Way CEO, David Rabin has coached the BANC Raiders for 15 years and believes this partnership will help Greenwich youth understand the true meaning of sportsmanship. “Our football players and cheerleaders will have the opportunity to really help their neighbors and understand that their work on and off the field is equally important,” Rabin said.

The idea to support Neighbor to Neighbor (NTN) began this summer when Jr United Way volunteered at NTN and learned about the food pantry’s supplemental food program exclusively for Greenwich families. Last spring the Jr United Way partnered with the Outreach Club and National S.A.D.D Chapter at Greenwich High School to generate substance abuse awareness among teens in the community. “Our goal is to make it an annual tradition,” said Emily Zerbst, Jr United Way Program Coordinator. She continued, “Jr United Way teens understand the critical issues in their community and have the tools to help other local teen organizations achieve goals through team work. I’m excited to be able to partner with organizations like Greenwich Youth Football and others in town. Jr United Way enriches the lives of its teen members and we encourage any and all teens in Greenwich to join and support their community.”
