Interested participants should send A Bloc of Writers a draft of their Common App essay and then meet with an essay tutor during a 30-minute session. They can also sign up for a meeting if they need help fine-tuning and polishing their supplemental essays.
The assumption by some parents and students is that the main reason they need to show their essays to someone is to correct grammar and punctuation, says Michele Turk, founder of A Bloc of Writers. “While this is necessary, it’s more important to evaluate the tone and content, not whether they put a comma in the right place,” says Turk. “In other words, you need to show it to someone who knows what makes a good essay.”
Students must send their essays 24 hours beforehand to secure a time slot with an editor. Payment is required in advance. To sign up, email Michele@ablocofwriters.com or call 203-622-2968.
