The Drawing Room presents a solo exhibition of work by Lori Glavin. The exhibition titled “Alterations: Recent Work by Lori Glavin” will run from Sept. 24 to Oct. 29 with an Artist Talk at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, followed by a public meet-the-artist reception until 6 p.m.
Alterations is a mixed media show which brings together for the first time at The Drawing Room, Lori Glavin’s recent abstract oil paintings side-by-side with her collages. Imagery from both bodies of work carry playful and humorous tones while still demanding the viewer’s serious-minded attention.
Perceptible in her choice of materials and visual motifs, Glavin’s work draws upon the domestic space for inspiration. She states, “My work is inspired by the visual clatter of the mundane places I know best, the domestic environment, or the tilted landscape of my weekend garden… In my home environment, possessions are stacked and saved, washed and stitched, patched together and revitalized. This cacophony of colors, shapes and patterns informs and inspires my work.”
Lori Glavin is an abstract painter, printmaker and collage artist who has been involved in the visual arts for over 35 years. Originally from Rochester, N.Y., Lori earned her BFA from Syracuse University’s School of Visual & Performing Arts. She worked in New York City for over a decade as a graphic designer and art director for numerous companies including her own design firm, Condé Nast Publications & McCall’s Magazine. For the past 20 years Lori has focused on her fine art practice. In 2007 she co-founded Wilson Avenue Loft Artists, a community of artist studios in Norwalk. She was a Vermont Studio Center grant recipient and resident in 2015. Lori exhibits regularly throughout the Northeast and Southwest and is an artist member at The Silvermine Guild in New Canaan.
