On Saturday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m., Curiosity Concerts – a series of free family concerts presented by professional musicians at different venues in Greenwich – will present Atacama Ensemble.

The Atacama Ensemble showcases Latin American and Andean music. All members have mastered multiple instruments and are outstanding classical and folkloric musicians. Their repertoire includes rhythms like the Huaynos, Sayas, San Juanitos, Diabladas, and Joropos as well as Afro Peruvian music and Andean fusion. The instruments featured by this ensemble include sikus, toyos, rondadores, quenas, tarkas, charangos, Venezuelan cuatros and percussion such as bombo and Peruvian cajón in addition to classical flute, voice and guitar. Members of Atacama Ensemble have performed in many theaters throughout South America, Europe and the rest of the world.

Concerts are 50 minutes long and are designed to inspire parents as well as their children of any age (but children should be able to enjoy an hour of music).

The concert will take place at Western Middle School, 1 Western Jr. Hwy. It is free, but reservations are required at CuriosityConcerts.org. There are wait lists and the tickets have real value. Please, only reserve if you are certain to attend. ‘No shows’ will not be allowed to reserve for future concerts.

This concert is presented as part of Greenwich Playing for Change Day, a community celebration in support of global music education. For a full listing of Greenwich Playing for Change Day events, please visit.curiosityconcerts.org.
