On Monday, Sept. 26, State Representative Fred Camillo (R-151) will host a forum focusing on senior citizens and how they can make modest changes to transform their homes into safer environments, allowing them to enjoy retirement with dignity.
The goal is to educate the senior population about hazards within their own homes, which could help avoid unnecessary hospital visits. Rep. Camillo believes this event will help raise awareness for a common issue, which will require far more attention as the senior population continues to grow.
Statistics show that every 18 seconds a senior citizen has a fall that results in a trip to the emergency room. Since 55 percent of these incidents occur within their own homes, seniors should be taking precautionary measures to keep themselves safe while also providing piece of mind to their loved ones.
Rep. Camillo will be joined by Board Certified Case Manager and Dementia Practitioner, Linda Ziac who will be discussing helpful tips that seniors and their families can take to maintain their independence for years to come.
The event will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Greenwich Senior Center, 299 Greenwich Ave. It is free and open to the public. Senior citizens and their families, senior caregiving specialists, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
