
Eugene (Gene) J. Bliska, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 4. He was 83 years old.
He was born in Greenwich to the late Joseph Bliska and Anna Hinlicky on Aug. 2, 1933. He worked in the food management industry, most recently for Pezrow Corp. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he dedicated his life to the Lord and also served as the organist for over 62 years, the choir director for over 30 years, and church elder for 50-plus years.
Gene had a passion for roses, and cultivated over 1,500 rose bushes on his Rose Acres property and created new roses by hybridizing them.
Gene was president of the Westchester Rose Society and he also designed and managed estate gardens in the local area. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Nancy (Sadlon) Bliska, and is survived by his children, Cindy Fisher and Mark Bliska and Mark’s wife Briggette, and his grandchildren Greg, Jen, Anya, and Bryce.
He is also survived by his sister, Josephine Kulesh, brother Martin Bliska, brother Ronald Bliska, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his sister Ethel Waldie.
To honor his life, family greeted loved ones yesterday, Sept. 8, at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home in Greenwich. Funeral service will be held this morning at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 286 Delavan Ave., Greenwich, followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
