Over 45 women came together on Tuesday, July 26 at Burning Tree Country Club to play golf and raise funds for the American Cancer Society. The club joined the ranks of Babes Against Cancer with their inaugural tournament, the first Connecticut club to hold such an event.

Babes Against Cancer is a major force in cancer support, raising over a million dollars annually through the efforts of approximately 300 volunteers and 5,000 participants at 36 golf and country clubs on Long Island. In the 44 years since its inception, Babes Against Cancer has raised over $26 million making it the leading American Cancer Society fund-raiser of its kind.

In 2015, Babes Against Cancer raised over $1.2 million gross, with just 5% going to fundraising expenses. 100% of the net proceeds raised support the fight against breast and prostate cancer. The funds raised are evenly divided between breast cancer mission programs and research and prostate cancer research.

Club member and Chair of the event Dawn Papalian was pleased with their first-ever event, saying “We had tremendous support from the Burning Tree Country Club Board, Pro Shop staff and the membership which contributed to the success of this important event. We are excited to get working on next year’s event.”
