During Memorial Day weekend, Jews around the world celebrated what has become known as a “Jewish Memorial Day” or Lag B’Omer. Jews count down the Omer this period marks a semi-mourning period but the day of Lag B’Omer restrictions seize and Jews celebrate the day with outdoor barb-a-ques, bonfires, kite flying, using bows and arrows and relaxing in the spirit of Jewish Unity.
The holiday marks the teachings of the Rabbi Akiva who stressed loving one’s neighbor as oneself. This year, Chabad of Greenwich hosted a Lag B’Omer celebration at Tod’s Point. Attendees were delighted by a huge spread of delicious veggies, hotdogs, hamburgers, watermelon and roasted marshmallows. Children flew kites, played hula-hoop and shot bows and arrows and were also entertained by a bubble show and clown.
