Beginning violin and viola students of Brenda Vincent will present their annual Spring Performance Workshop on Saturday, June 4 at Diamond Hill Church.
There will be two programs: 1 and 2:30 p.m. Ms. Vincent, a faculty member of Riverside School of Music teaches a beginning method that integrates traditional Classical Music with American Blues and Jazz. Students will perform classical works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Schumann as well as traditional children’s folk songs from different parts of the world. American composers include Duke Ellington, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Charlie Parker and Oliver Nelson where students will perform Call and Response and improvise. Students will gain the experience of playing with a rhythm section of piano, guitar, bass and drums. This year, the workshop feature will introduce the drum set, or “traps.” Each component of the drum set will be demonstrated and students will choose which drum or cymbal will be featured to accompany their individual solos. The public is welcome to attend either program.
