Gloomy weather did not deter, the Junior League of Greenwich from hosting its fourth Clean-Up Day at the Byram Park and Beach on May 7. The League partnered with the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation, Greenwich Green & Clean and the Byram Shore Boat Club for a fun and productive day beautifying the park and beach areas.

With spring in the air, nearly 30 volunteers armed with shovels, rakes, and garden tools, spruced up the park and beach by picking up trash and debris, spreading mulch, planting trees and flowers, weeding garden beds and raking and sifting sand.

Mary Hull, Executive Director of Greenwich Green & Clean, educated participants about the positive impact of cleanup and recycling on the community. Darrin Wigglesworth, Parks Operation Manager for the Town of Greenwich, instructed volunteers in proper tree planting technique.

The multi-generational volunteer power came from various sources including representatives from the Junior League of Greenwich and their families, the Department of Parks & Recreation, Greenwich Green & Clean, the Byram Shore Boat Club, and teen volunteers from the Boys & Girls Club.

As a bonus for their hard work, volunteers were treated to a Hotdog BBQ hosted by the Byram Shore Boat Club, just as the mist rolled in to water the new plantings.
