The Greenwich Choral Society presents Mendelssohn’s oratorio Saint Paul on Saturday, May 7 at 4:30 p.m., in the O’Byrne Chapel at Manhattanville College, 2900 Purchase Street, Purchase, N.Y.
Mendelssohn’s oratorio is a profound musical tribute to Saul, the zealous Pharisee who turns from being a fanatical enemy of Christians into the most influential apostle of the faith, St. Paul. Influenced by Handel and Bach, Mendelssohn’s counterpoint is fresh and original, with exquisite instrumental coloration, soulful arias and choruses, and a powerful double fugue. The performance will be sung in German.
Join the 120 voices of the Greenwich Choral Society in the beautiful O’Byrne Chapel at Manhattanville College for “Radiant Certainty,” a springtime celebration of Mendelssohn’s “Saint Paul.”
Tickets are $45, $38, $28 (with special prices for students) and may be ordered online at Greenwichchoralsociety.org or by phone at 203-622-5136.
