Greenwich High Softball Unloads on Wreckers, Wins 16-7

The Greenwich High School softball team played a rare Sunday afternoon game and came away with the resounding victory, blasting Staples High School in a non-conference battle 16-7.

The Lady Cardinals had stellar performances in both the second and seventh innings, scoring five runs each inning. They also scored three times in the sixth, twice more in the fourth and once in the first inning.

Leading the way for Big Red was Julie Gambino and Julia Greco. Gambino finished the game going a perfect 4-for-4, scoring four times and netting seven runs batted in. Not to be outdone was Greco, who went 4-for-5 with five runs and three RBIs.

Emma Beinstein ended the contest 3-for-5 with one RBI, while Cate Decker was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in. Rounding out the day was Dom Gambino, who was 2-for-5 with one RBI.

On the mound, Sophia Prieto was strong yet again, finishing with 10 strikeouts and seven walks.
