Round Hill Community Church invites the community to their Palm Sunday and Easter Services featuring Verdi’s Requiem and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 with outstanding instrumentalists, soloists, and choir.
On Palm Sunday, March 20 at 10 a.m. the rafters will vibrate with the exuberant sound of an augmented choir singing “The Holy City” by Adams and Fauré’s popular chestnut “The Palms.” Then, the choir and soloists will present the “Requiem” section from Verdi’s masterful and unabashedly operatic Requiem.
On Easter Sunday, March 27 at 9:30 a.m., French trumpeter Dominic Derasse will be the featured soloist in J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F Major. The Brandenburg Concerti have groups of soloists rather than a single instrument as in later concerto forms. The flute, oboe, and violin soloists will be Eugeny Fanuk, Slava Zlatchenii and Gulia Gurevich. During the service the choir and chamber orchestra will perform a section of Beethoven’s thrilling Mass in C. The romantic strains of Ralph Vaughan Williams’s “Easter,” featuring heldentenor Patrick Hogan, will be accompanied by strings and the choir. Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” will complete the service.
The music at these services is directed by Christopher Kabala, Minister of Music at Round Hill Community Church.
The church is located at 395 Round Hill Road. For more information, visit roundhillcommunitychurch.org or call 203-869-1091.
