Eastern Middle School eighth graders studied a “Science of Flight” workshop presented by the Bruce Museum in January. In this PTA-hosted enrichment program, the students discussed Isaac Newton’s Laws of Motion and how they apply to airplane flight. They also applied concepts of thrust, gravity, drag and lift to creation of two styles of paper airplanes – Dart and Nakamura Lock – then tested their flight effectiveness, and modified their designs to enhance gliding, accuracy and acrobatics.
