Francis Ambrogio graduated recently from the Army Reconnaissance Course (ARC).

ARC is an important step in the development of Armor officers, who must be able to lead tanks into decisive action in battle as well as lead cavalry scouts on reconnaissance and security missions that are essential to shaping the battlefield.

To produce capable reconnaissance leaders, ARC emphasizes a deeper understanding of fundamentals and forces students to make decisions in quickly changing, ambiguous situations. Evaluations in ARC are not based on “buzzwords” during mission planning or on checklists, but rather on quality of execution when students are put in leadership positions during practical field exercises. ARC provides the Army with leaders who can rapidly develop situations and act decisively while under pressure.

On Sunday, Feb. 21, Ambrogio will report to Camp Rogers, Ga., to begin the U.S. Army Ranger School. Ranger School is a mentally and physically challenging course that teaches small unit tactics and develops leaders with skills for direct combat. It is one of the Army’s most difficult courses, the title of “Ranger” having been a distinction of honor since before the American Revolution.
