Coping with the loss of a parent, friend or family member can be difficult for anyone. But with the added stress of balancing school, social and extra-curricular responsibilities, grief can be especially debilitating for teens.
To help area teenagers manage the stress and sadness associated with death, The Den for Grieving Kids has created a support group for kids between the ages of 13 to 18. Based on The Den’s successful model, the group is peer-supported and facilitated by a trained volunteer. It also provides teens with a safe, confidential forum in which they can express their feelings with others experiencing similar circumstances.
The Den’s new group for teens will be held alternate Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Family Centers offices at 20 Bridge Street. There is no cost to participate, however a confidential consultation is required prior to joining. For more information, contact Linda Weatherseed at lweatherseed@familycenters.org or 203-655-4693.
A program of Family Centers, The Den for Grieving Kids provides a safe, caring place for children, teens and families to explore their feelings about the loss and begin the journey toward healing.
