Greenwich resident, Mary Gibbons, IceHotel designer, photographer and author of the definitive book on the IceHotel will give a talk and slide presentation on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m., at the Woman’s Club of Greenwich, 89 Maple Avenue.
Gibbons will talk about her work at Sweden’s annual IceHotel, which is built every year out of snow and ice just north of the Arctic Circle. “I loved snow storms as a child and couldn’t wait to get out there and build something… anything. I have always loved going out for long distance walks on winter nights,” Gibbons said.
That interest led her to study architecture at SUNY-Buffalo, while trying out for the first women’s American Olympic luge team in 1976.
Gibbons’ presentation and slide show will take attendees through the journey from the ice formation to the completed hotel. A coffee reception will follow the presentation.
The presentation is free, but RSVP is required. To reserve a seat, call 203-869-2046.
