Aisling Byrne, a Greenwich high school student who has volunteered for Friends of Autistic People (FAP) for the past two years, led a fundraising project to benefit the non-profit organization.
Aisling got some friends together to wrap dozens of FAP’s puzzle scarves and help sell them at McArdle’s. They also created special cards and mailed them to FAP members and supporters. The fund-raiser helps raise autism awareness and much needed funds for the Farm Living and Learning Academy, a FAP project that will one day provide a home for adults with autism.
Aisling also helped design a poster, which is now part of the materials used at fairs and events to promote FAP’s mission. Aisling recently attended her first autism fair where she, with the help of her mother, set up and ran a table for FAP to inform people about the farm project.
Aisling’s interest in autism is very personal as she has a twin brother with ASD.
Friends of Autistic People is a Greenwich-based parents’ support group dedicated to bringing about an environment where adult children with autism can be assured of receiving high-quality care and assistance after they turn 21.
