Nwana Helps Brunswick Hoopsters Blast Harvey 59-35

Brunswick celebrated its first home game in Dann Gym with a decisive 59-35 coast-to-coast victory over the Harvey School on Wednesday.

Senior Nacho Nwana had a huge day, netting 20 points, collecting nine rebounds and dishing out nine assists in the non-league win.

The Bruins, 4-5 on the season, look to even their overall record with an FAA home contest on Saturday against Hopkins at 2:30 p.m.

Brunswick jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first half, including a three-pointer from Nwana in less than two minutes of action.

The Bruins extended their lead to 25-10 later in the half, capped by a fast break layup by junior Cam Kelly that was set-up by a steal and long pass from classmate Will Marvin.

Leading 29-10, the Bruins saw Harvey drain a pair of trifectas, before Nwana countered with a three of his own with under a minute to play.

Trailing 34-16, Harvey’s Rohan Harrison (team-high 15 points) banked in a NBA-length three-pointer in the final seconds, setting the halftime score at 34-19 in favor of the hosts.

Brunswick built a 42-22 lead early in the second half, highlighted by a sweet reverse layup by Marvin, as Kelly returned the favor with an assist on the play.

Harvey (2-4) went on a 10-2 run midway through the second half, knifing the deficit to 44-32. However, the Bruins kept the score in double-digits, extending their lead with a 15-3 run to close out the contest, setting the final score at 59-35.

Nwana had memorable game, narrowly missing a triple-double, as the senior netted game-highs with 20 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals, while collecting a game-high four blocks from his guard position.

Kelly and Marvin each netted nine points, as Kelly added seven helpers from his point guard position. Sophomore Graham Pierce chipped in 14 points, hitting 5-for-11 shots from the field, including 2-for-5 from behind the arc.
